Maureen FitzSimons' early achievements in performing arts (now known as Maureen O'Hara), would put her in America's eyes, into the class of child prodigies. This was a very natural characteristic for a girl who was of Irish heritage, that was surrounded during the beginning by gifted family members and parents. Maureen arrived in this nurturing sanctuary on August 17th, 1920. Her family was the family of her parents. Marguerita L. FitzSimons had a successful contralto. The father of her, Charles FitzSimons, managed a business in Dublin and also owned part of the famous Irish football team "The Shamrock Rovers." Maureen was the second of six FitzSimons children. Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen did well in sports and was a lover of rough play. Her ability to perform was the perfect match for her interest in sport. She took home almost every Feis Award for Drama and Theatre Performance that her country had to provide. At the age of 14, she was invited to the highly acclaimed Abbey Theater and pursued her dreams of classical theatre and operatic singing.
